About

Jeremy is one of Vancouver's rising stars of jazz, with a rich baritone that evokes such classic voices as Nat King Cole and Johnny Hartman, along with modern greats like Kurt Elling.  Like Elling, he is a fellow disciple of vocalese, following in the footsteps of Jon Hendricks and bringing old standards new life through his poignant, honest lyrics and storytelling.

Already a seasoned performer, Jeremy's resume includes festival appearances fronting the Bruce James Orchestra, the role of Paul in Pascal Saunier's opera, Le Destin du Jazz Club, many gigs around Vancouver, and entertaining in lounges aboard cruise ships the world over.  Since returning to Vancouver, Jeremy released his debut album, Hey There, through Cellar Music Group in September 2022.

Jeremy holds a Diploma of Jazz Studies from Capilano University where he studied with Steve Maddock and Jennifer Scott.  In Rejean Marois' acclaimed ensemble, Nitecap, Jeremy shared the stage with modern greats: Maria Schneider, Donny McCaslin, Ambrose Akinmusire, and Canadian stars Bria Skonberg and Laila Biali.  Outside of jazz, Jeremy also has extensive experience in the worlds of choral music and barbershop harmony, including an international medal winning collegiate quartet, and appearances on TV, film, and radio.

Jazz at the Bolt

 —  —

Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, 6450 Deer Lake Ave, Burnaby

Jazz Impresario Cory Weeds brings together the best of Vancouver’s jazz talent with renowned artists from across Canada and internationally. Last year, despite COVID restrictions limiting the venues to half-capacity, the Shadbolt was filled with joyous and celebratory energy. This year, with full-capacity audiences and an even stronger lineup, the event is sure to be better than ever.

This year's programming features a varied and extraordinarily talented roster. We’ve teamed up with Tim Reinert of Infidels Jazz to present a handful of emerging artists over the two days.

Saturday, February 4th is headlined by alto saxophonist Jesse Davis with The Spike Wilner Trio, Lezlie Harrison & her group, and tenor saxophone phenom Seamus Blake with the Vancouver Jazz Orchestra.

Jeremy Wong - vox Chris Gestrin - piano Andre Lachance - bass Jesse Cahill - drums in room 103

Fresh off the release of his debut album, Hey There, Jeremy Wong joins forces with two of his contemporaries from the next generation of Vancouver jazz. Alvin Brendan (guitar) and Benjamin Millman (keys) back Jeremy as he sings his way through classic American Songbook and jazz repertory, with a healthy injection of original lyrics and vocalese to keep the classics fresh.
